Director of Video Programming & Operations

Inequality Media seeks a new Director of Video Programming & Operations to oversee the organization’s creative output, leading the translation of ideas and high-level concepts into captivating, high-performance content for all digital platforms.

About the Position

The Director of Video Programming & Operations will blend non-fiction storytelling and superior management skills with fluency in digital media. Working hand-in-hand with Inequality Media’s Lead Editor / Post-Production Supervisor and Production Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the full arc of content development, including operations, ideation, pre-production, shoots, post-production, and creative partnerships.

We’re looking for a candidate with a passion for - and track record in - digital video and progressive politics who will:

  • Lead video content creation, strategy, and execution for Inequality Media’s videos with an existing reach of 10 million monthly views on our social media platforms.

  • Grow and develop Inequality Media’s video portfolio, ranging from produced explainers to live broadcasts to interviews, for Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Use analytics to set goals for audience growth and to inform our creative strategy and production, pulling insights from our social media data.

  • Advance and maintain relationships with existing content partners such as MoveOn to deliver compelling videos that achieve ambitious results, and facilitate new collaborative opportunities.  

  • Provide sound editorial guidance, ensuring videos align with Inequality Media’s mission and brand.

  • Develop and manage video production budgets with a focus on increasing the efficiency of our production capacity and output.

  • Work hand-in-hand with lead editor to determine the creative direction of the videos, including making assignments for other editors and freelancers.

  • Facilitate regular evaluation and feedback of video content, themes, and metrics.

  • Establish a culture of experimentation, and lead evolution of video content over time.

  • Remain up-to-date on the latest trends, key players and best practices for digital creative.

Essential Qualifications

  • Five or more years of professional experience in digital media, with a focus on video

  • Track record of high performance in video, including developing and executing highly shareable, interactive, multi-platform content that grows and engages audiences

  • Expertise in conceptualizing, filming, directing, writing, editing, and/or producing short-form video content with an emphasis on nonfiction storytelling

  • Experience managing complex workflows, including those involving freelance editors

  • The ability to conceptually and creatively visualize complex concepts including data

  • The ability to develop new formats and series for our online programming

  • The ability to distill data-backed insights into actionable recommendations

  • Strong knowledge of the digital media industry, including as it relates to nonprofits and political organizations

  • Strong interest in political economics and compelling civic education

  • A solid understanding of progressive values and policies, including as they relate to the news cycle

Digital Engagement Associate

Inequality Media seeks a new Digital Engagement Associate to help oversee the organization’s operations, donor relations, and social media channels. This is a full-time position in Berkeley, California. Application deadline is April 12.

Position Overview

Inequality Media seeks a detail-oriented, media savvy, and highly organized strategic thinker with a strong interest in progressive politics to join our small, Berkeley-based operation. The Digital Engagement Associate will work closely with Inequality Media’s leadership, including the Executive Director and the Digital Director, and will be responsible for tasks critical to keeping the organization running smoothly in terms of general operations, donor relations and social media channels. S/he will be responsible for activities directly related to achieving the organization’s goals including maintaining IM’s CRM database, posting content, supporting the day-to-day management of our social media communities (audience development) on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. S/he will help manage our social media accounts with the goal of growing, engaging and retaining followers while implementing strategies set in place by the Digital Director. The position will have the opportunity to share information, design social media posts, create dialog with followers, and report back to the Digital Director and the IM team on trends and discussions within the social media platforms.

Essential Functions

Social Media

  • Daily publishing to key social channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, reaching millions of followers.

  • Work with the Digital Director on audience development, including to grow our number of followers and email list, and to engage supporters through digital campaigns

  • Work with the Digital Director and creative team to identify and execute rapid response video opportunities

    Donor Relations

  • Perform database management, data analysis and data entry (Little Green Light,

  • Microsoft Excel), including processing and tracking donations

  • Oversee mail campaigns, including proofreading, editing and production

  • Assist in the gathering of information and formatting of proposals and solicitations for individuals donors and foundations.

Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and passion for current events, politics, and economics

  • Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, and a solid understanding of the social media landscape and the latest digital trends

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including copy-editing skills

  • Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience with databases and/or CRM systems such as SalesForce, Raiser’s Edge, and/or Little Green Light

  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as MailChimp or Action Network

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-past environment
